Longshoreman / stevedore
Description
Longshoremen and stevedores load and unload cargo from ships at ports. The work is heavy and physical: operating equipment, handling and moving cargo and containers, securing loads, and working in the demanding, hazardous environment of the dockside in all weather.
They work at ports and terminals. The role suits strong, hardworking, safety-aware people who can handle heavy physical work and equipment in a dangerous environment, work as part of a coordinated crew, keep cargo moving on and off ships efficiently, and accept the physical demands and conditions of one of the toughest jobs on the waterfront.
