Pipefitter / steamfitter
Description
A pipefitter or steamfitter installs and maintains the piping systems that carry steam, gas, chemicals, and high-pressure fluids in industrial and commercial settings. They read plans, cut, thread, bend, and weld pipe, assemble complex systems, and install and maintain the boilers, pumps, and equipment these systems serve, working to exacting and safety-critical standards.
More industrial and high-pressure than general plumbing, the work demands precision and welding skill, since failures can be dangerous. Pipefitters work for contractors in factories, power plants, and large facilities.
The job suits skilled, careful tradespeople who want demanding technical work on critical systems, with the strong pay and steady demand of a specialized trade.
