Engineering manager
Description
An engineering manager leads a team of software engineers, responsible for both the people and the work they deliver. They hire, mentor, and grow engineers, run the team's processes and planning, remove obstacles, handle performance and career development, and work with product and other leaders to deliver software — balancing technical guidance with people leadership.
The role shifts from writing code to enabling others to write it well, requiring technical credibility plus genuine management skill. Engineering managers work at software and tech companies.
The job suits experienced engineers who get more satisfaction from growing a team and shipping through others than from coding themselves, and who care about both results and the people producing them.
