Data scientist

A data scientist extracts insight and builds predictive models from complex, often messy data. They frame business problems as analytical questions, gather and clean data, explore it for patterns, build and validate statistical and machine-learning models, and translate the results into recommendations that decision-makers can act on.

The role blends statistics, programming (usually Python or R), and domain understanding, sitting between engineering and business. Data scientists work across tech, finance, healthcare, and most data-rich industries.

The hardest, most durable part of the job is asking the right question and judging whether a model's answer actually means what it appears to — not the modeling itself.
