Economist (academic)

Academic economists study how societies allocate resources, building and testing models of behaviour in markets, firms, and governments. The work is largely quantitative: developing theory, designing identification strategies, gathering or accessing data, running econometric analysis, and publishing peer-reviewed papers, usually alongside teaching.

They work in universities and research institutes, specialising in fields such as labour, macro, or development economics. The role suits mathematically strong, creative thinkers who enjoy formulating sharp causal questions and defending findings to a demanding peer community.
