Prosthetics technician

A prosthetics technician builds and repairs artificial limbs and other prosthetic devices from the specifications of a prosthetist. They shape sockets, align components, laminate and finish materials, and adjust fit and function so a device is comfortable, durable, and matched to the wearer's body and activity level.

The role is hands-on and detail-driven, combining workshop skills — molding, machining, sanding, assembly — with an understanding of biomechanics and materials. Technicians usually work behind the scenes in a fabrication lab, though many interact with patients during fittings and adjustments as a device is dialed in over time.
