Nurse midwife

A nurse-midwife provides care through pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postpartum period, alongside broader reproductive and well-woman care. The work centres on supporting low-risk births, monitoring mother and baby, managing labour hands-on, and recognising and responding to complications while keeping birth as normal and supported as possible.

The role is relational, high-stakes, and physically present, often on call. Because childbirth requires continuous in-person attendance and manual clinical skill, it is structurally resistant to automation.
