Medical laboratory technologist

A medical laboratory technologist analyzes blood, tissue, and other body samples to provide the data physicians rely on to diagnose and monitor disease. They run and calibrate complex lab instruments, perform chemical, microbiological, and cellular tests, examine specimens under microscopes, verify results for accuracy, and flag abnormal or critical findings for clinicians.

Most of the work happens behind the scenes in a lab, but its accuracy is foundational — a large share of medical decisions rests on lab results. Technologists work in hospital and commercial labs, often on shifts, and the role suits precise, methodical people who enjoy science and the responsibility of getting results exactly right.
