Certified nursing assistant

View resources

Description

A certified nursing assistant provides the hands-on daily care that keeps patients and residents comfortable and safe. Under nurses' supervision, they help with bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and moving, take vital signs, monitor and report changes in condition, and offer the steady human contact that anchors a patient's day.

The role is physically demanding and deeply personal, often the most consistent presence in a patient's care. CNAs work in nursing homes, hospitals, and home care, usually on shifts, and with short certification it's a common entry into healthcare.

The job suits compassionate, dependable people who find meaning in direct caregiving despite the physical and emotional load.
