Naval Engineer

A naval engineer designs and maintains the propulsion, power, and mechanical systems that drive a ship — engines, shafts, generators, steering, and all the machinery that keeps a vessel moving and habitable at sea. They size and specify the equipment, solve the layout problems of fitting it into a hull, and oversee its installation, testing, and repair.

They work for shipyards, engineering firms, navies, and shipping companies, sometimes sailing with the vessels they support. The role suits mechanical-minded engineers who can handle complex integrated systems and the demands of marine service.
