Songwriter

A songwriter creates original songs — melody, harmony, and lyrics — for their own performance or for other artists, in styles from pop to country to musical theatre. The craft blends personal expression with structural know-how about hooks, form, and what makes a song memorable, often developed in collaborative writing sessions.

Most songwriters work freelance or under publishing arrangements, pitching songs, co-writing, and building catalogues whose value accrues over time. The role is creative and self-directed, and income depends heavily on placements, royalties, and reputation.
