Costume designer

A costume designer conceives and realises the clothing for characters in theatre, film, and television, supporting story, period, and personality through what performers wear. The work runs from script analysis and research through design, sourcing or building garments, fittings, and on-set or on-stage adjustments.

The role blends creative and historical knowledge with hands-on construction and close collaboration with directors, performers, and wardrobe teams. Much of it is physical and performer-specific — fitting, altering, and making garments work under the demands of live or filmed performance.
