Leatherworker

A leatherworker designs and makes goods from leather — bags, belts, footwear, accessories, and decorative pieces — cutting, tooling, stitching, edging, and finishing by hand and with machines. The craft demands a feel for an irregular natural material that varies by hide, plus precision and patience.

Many work independently, producing bespoke or small-batch goods sold through commissions, markets, and shops. Because the work depends on sustained fine motor skill and material judgement, it remains firmly hands-on and resistant to automation.
